The open head sensor is dirty or damaged. Any ideas to get it back online? I'm in desperate need to print overdue labels. The latches look fine and it closes no problem. I changed the printhead, hoping that was the fix and it hasn't made any difference. If I turn off and on again, it's back to orange. It also does nothing when pressing the green button. I try recalibrating by holding the power button 4 seconds, and then turning on the on button and it spits a few blank pages out, but does not print anything, turns green but does not respond to the print queue.

It was working one day, the next it printed a bad page and has been orange ever since. Why can't I print suddenly? I have an orange amber light that is constant after I turn the printer on. Zebra LP2844 Thermal Printer Orange Light. Hold the pause key for 10-15 seconds and when the printer is done with it's power on self test, it will start printing out a test pattern label which includes a nice black area where you can look for the white vertical lines. This is done by turning off the printer, pressing and holding on the PAUSE key while turning on the printer. Another method would be to use the widest and longest label you have and print a 'pause" test label. You will see white vertical lines in the areas where elements are worn out. The best way to see if elements are worn out is to design a label that has a thick solid black line across the label or a solid black box. If the area that is worn out is supposed to be printing bars for the barcode, this will cause the scanning problem you are experiencing. Usually the elements go out one or two at a time. By gaps, do you mean a "void" area ? Over time, the elements on the printhead will wear down and finally they won't transfer heat to the ribbon.
